About private vehicle restrictions

The first restrictions on the use of private vehicles on the Mt. Fuji toll road (Fuji-Subaru Line) on the Yamanashi Prefecture side, over the summer months of July and August, were implemented in 1994. The aim was to protect the environment by mitigating congestion and preventing the dying of trees along the road due to exhaust gas. The restrictions on general traffic have been implemented every year since, for regular periods over the summer climbing season, with the exception of some buses and taxis. People visiting in private vehicles must transfer to paid shuttle buses.
