There are four main trails on Mt. Fuji. The distance and elevation gain vary depending on the trail.
Starting from the northernmost Yoshida Trail, the other trails in clockwise order are Subashiri Trail, Gotemba Trail and Fujinomiya Trail.
Ascertain the characteristics of each trail in deciding which route to take.
The Yoshida Trail is recommended for those climbing Mt. Fuji for the first time.
This is the most popular and major trail, with many huts and a relatively short distance.
The Gotemba Trail is the only trail without private vehicle restrictions up to the 5th Station, but it is farthest from the summit making it more suitable for advanced hikers.
At the summit, hikers can peer into the crater, and even walk around it.
Walking around the crater is known as "ohachi-meguri." All trails converge here, so hikers can climb down the mountain via a different route.
